WeWe are working towards changing our impact on the world by introducing better, more sustainable materials and adopting better practices within our internal network to reduce our environmental footprint. We're making great strides already, but there is still a long way to go. As we progress on this journey, we will be giving you our complete transparency every step of the way. The next few pages will show our goals for the future, and a breakdown of where we are today with our sustainable collection.

Using better, more sustainable materials is a top priority for our UP.FRONT sustainability strategy. We have set some ambitious goals and our teams are working hard to achieve them.
All our polyester and cotton will be recycled or more sustainably sourced
More sustainably sourced includes organic cotton, Better Cotton and Cotton Connect
Over half of our synthetic cellulosics will come from more sustainable sources
All our leather, wool, feather and down will be sourced in line with industry best practice
All the materials we use will be more sustainably sourced
We are proud members of Better Cotton. Better Cotton is not traceable to end products. However, farmers benefit from the demand for Better Cotton in equivalent volumes to those we source.
Our more sustainable lines
Our journey began back in 2006 in a tiny San Francisco apartment with a single laptop, an ebay account, and a closet full of vintage. Fast forward 14 years later, we might have outgrown that apartment, but vintage is still at the heart of what we do. Sourced and re-made in the UK from a sustainable supply base; we take old garments such as military jackets and surplus denim and remake them into repurposed styles for today.Explore Vintage »
Recycled polyester is produced from yarn made up from plastic bottles and other materials that are diverted from landfill. We are continually working with our design team and supply base to bring you the highest quality product, but it's not always possible to use recycled fabrics. We are commited to exploring new materials and design collections that lessen our environmental impact.Explore Recycled »
Besides offering vintage denim, we also provide all of our core shape and fits in organic denim. Made from 100% organic cotton that has been grown using natural processes that are better for the environment, its production sustains the health of soil and ecosystems by avoiding the use of polluting pesticides and toxic chemicals, making it safer for farmers, the world, and you.Explore Denim »
As a business we are growing rapidly. We rely on strong relationships with our suppliers to provide our customers with on trend products at a great price.
We’ve been building our team who work with our suppliers in the UK and further afield to make sure that we have a clear map of all the factories producing our clothes and that our standards are followed to protect the workers in those factories and the quality of the clothes they produce. Here’s what we are going to do…
We are going to disclose our factory lists and our purchasing practices
We are setting up and donating £1 million to an independent Garment Workers Trust in Leicester so that any worker can get advice and access to grants if they need it
Launching our own centre of excellence in Leicester. A factory we are opening to showcase how our garments are made and to share best practice across the industry
We will have mapped our supply chain to the raw material source for our key fibres e.g. the cotton fields

We’ve employed a dedicated responsible purchasing team and specialised sustainability directors to guide us on our sustainability initiatives and strengthen this area of the business.
DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION
At Nasty Gal, we do not stand for discrimination, injustice, and inequality of any kind.
- In 2020 we launched a Diversity and Inclusion group – an employee-led communication platform that enables us to use the insight of our own team to develop and deploy initiatives that matter to them.
- We’re also part of The Steering Group; the boohoo group’s overarching steering committee that involves a leader from every brand to meet 6 times a year and discuss feedback from their groups and plan strategies to resolve.
- We strive to ensure that our messaging and our creatives are inclusive and representative across race, ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation. This includes working with more diverse models, partners, and creators.
- We champion women in the workplace and believe in equal opportunities for all. At Nasty Gal, 89% of our management team are women.
- Our starting salaries at the Burnley distribution centre are above the National Living Wage and all full time employees are paid at least the National Minimum Wage regardless of their age.
- We have plans to launch other initiatives, including but not limited to mandatory training for all staff. We are aware there is still much work to be done, and we are committed to educating ourselves continuously in order to secure positive and systemic change.
